In March 2023, Canal+ Online and Canal+ Premium debuted 'Emigracja XD' (Emigration XD), a new TV series adapted from Malcolm XD's bestselling novel. This innovative comedy explores the adventures of Malcolm and Stomil as they emigrate from their small Polish town to London, capturing the clash between local sensibilities and the broader world.
To enhance the social impact and interactivity of 'Emigracja XD,' we used the camper van featured throughout the series as the primary model to create a powerful AR filter experience on TikTok and Instagram. This innovative augmented reality technology allows fans to engage in an immersive interactive experience.
Project Implementation
Ensuring the AR effects match the promotional materials is crucial. When the producers first reached out to us, they emphasized the need for an exact replica of the camper van and wanted users to simulate driving it through body control. In creating the 3D model, we not only ensured the camper van was perfectly represented but also meticulously crafted the depiction of driving on German highways to the highest standard.
Promoting in an innovative way naturally brings effective results. However, a significant quality gap often lies in the subtle details. While maintaining interactivity, we continually strive for excellence, a principle that has always driven the Byten21 team. For instance, during the simulation of the camper van's journey, we recognized that the vehicle couldn't always remain spotless. Therefore, Byten21's technical team carefully rendered the dust effects accumulated from driving, combining lighting and texture within the limits of our technology.
Developed on Meta Spark and replicated on Effect House, this enabled the brand to use this AR effect synchronously on Instagram and TikTok, ensuring brand consistency and appeal across platforms.
Project Results
Through the social AR filters, we created a highly interactive experience that not only boosted the brand’s organic search but also expanded its promotional reach through UGC (user-generated content). Within just two days of launching on TikTok, the AR filter achieved over 4 million views and more than 21,000 uses, marking a significant achievement. The usage continued to grow post-launch, creating a strong impact on the brand’s social media platforms.
Through careful planning and innovative promotional methods, we successfully enhanced brand recognition while maintaining interactivity. This project not only secured success for Canal+'s "Emigracja XD" but also laid a solid foundation for future social media marketing for the brand.
